Narwain

The first month of the year, according to the usage of the Dúnedain. The name Narwain came from Sindarin, and was equivalent to Quenya Narvinyë, with both names meaning 'new Sun' (a reference to the re-emergence of the Sun after the cold dark midwinter month of Girithron or Ringarë). Narwain thus corresponds approximately to modern January, though the shifting of the equinoxes means that this correspondence is not precise. On a modern calendar, Narwain would run from 23 December (just after midwinter) to 21 January.
