A title used most often of the Valar, the Powers that descended into the world at its making and watched over it from the land of Aman beyond the Great Sea. Most of the few instances we have of the term are used collectively, describing the Valar as a group as 'the Mighty' or more fully as the 'Mighty of the West'. It could also be used of individual Valar (in fact the only example of this that we have is for Ulmo, though by implication the other Valar could be meaningfully titled in the same way).
The only other being in Middle-earth to acquire the title 'Mighty' was the Dragon Smaug. When Bilbo Baggins encountered the Dragon beneath the Lonely Mountain, the Hobbit used elaborately flattering language in their conversation, including the epithet 'Smaug the Mighty'.
