Among the Elves, the great hunter Oromë was connected with the forests where he hunted, both in the south of Valinor, and also in Middle-earth (where he came more often than the other Valar). For this reason he was known in Quenya as Aldaron, 'Lord of Trees', and in Sindarin by the related title Tauron, meaning 'Lord of Forests'.
