Golug

An Orkish name for the Noldor

A word from a language of the Orcs, whose only recorded use was during the later First Age, used to describe the Deep Elves or Noldor. Its origins are unknown, but it may be related to the Sindarin name for this same people, Golodhrim.

As for most Orkish names, we have no information about the derivation of Golug. However, it is superficially similar to the Sindarin word Golodh, 'one with knowledge', which was used in the plural form Golodhrim to describe the Noldor. It may be Golug is a corruption of this Sindarin name, or it may have some other, entirely unknown, origin.
