![]() ![]() A rare term used to describe Orodruin, the volcano in the heart of the Plateau of Gorgoroth in Mordor. It was in the flames of the Fire-mountain that Sauron forged the One Ring, and only by being cast back into those flames could the Ring be unmade. 'Fire-mountain' is a close translation of the name Orodruin (which literally means 'mountain of red flame'). The much more common English form 'Mount Doom' comes from Amon Amarth, a name given to the Fire-mountain by the Gondorians after it burst into flame soon after the foundation of their kingdom in the last years of the Second Age.
