A type of wild rose with sweet-smelling flowers and leaves and a prickled stem. Also known as sweet-briar, eglantine grows in the form of a dense and tall shrub. Frodo and Sam found it growing in Ithilien as they journeyed through that land. It was clearly known farther north than Ithilien, too: the mother of Peregrin Took - Eglantine Banks - was named for this flower.
