Cape of Forochel

The home of the Lossoth

Map of the Cape of Forochel
The Cape and Icebay of Forochel (somewhat conjectural)1
The Cape and Icebay of Forochel (somewhat conjectural)1

The broad and remote cape that came down from the north to close the Icebay of Forochel from the Great Sea. The cape is not shown on the maps that accompany The Lord of the Rings: it lay to the north of the region shown there, and was some three hundred miles in length. It was the main home of the snow-people known as the Lossoth, who lived along the cape protected from their enemies by the cold waters of the Icebay.

Notes

1

The Cape and Icebay of Forochel barely appear on the maps accompanying the Lord of the Rings (the northern tips of the Blue and Misty Mountains represent the northern extent of the canonical map). The detail of the farther North shown here is based on preliminary maps from volume VII of The History of Middle-earth, adapted very slightly to fit the later geography.
