Sabik is a binary system with an unusual configuration. The two components, both whiteA-typestars, share a closely similar mass to one another. They thus orbit a common centre of gravity, doing so while following extremely elongated eccentricorbits. At times the stars can approach as closely as two Astronomical Units from one another, while at other times their extreme orbits can separate them by 65 AU, a distance greater than the diameter of Neptune'sorbit around the Sun.
