A comprehensive catalogue of bright stars prepared at Yale University, and a system
of stellar designation based on this: stars, especially those lacking Bayer letters or
Flamsteed numbers, are commonly identified by their BSC catalogue number, prefixed by 'BSC', 'BS' or commonly 'HR' (for the Harvard Revised Photometry survey).
