The binary nature of Omicron Capricorni is clearly visible in this image. Omicron Capricorni A is the northeastern of the two component stars, while the slightly fainter Omicron Capricorni B is the southwestern member of the pair. Imagery provided by Aladin sky atlas
A system compased of binary companion stars on an almost direct line of sight from Earth (the brighter being designated Omicron Capricorni A, the other Omicron Capricorni B). Even the 'A' star appears faint to an observer on Earth, with an apparent magnitude of +5.90 making it invisible to the naked eye except under ideal conditions. The two component stars of the system are widely separated in space, and probably orbit one another at a distance of more than two thousand Astronomical Units.
