Upsilon Cygni is notable for its rapid rotation rate, which causes it to possess an equatorial bulge, and probably a circumstellar disc. This is an eruptive variable of the Gamma Cassiopeiae classification: its rate of rotation cause it to fluctuate in luminosity, and at times for mass to erupt from the star.
