Blue main sequence star in Centaurus
Show on Sky Map
A dim and distant blue star lying close to Centaurus' border with Crux.
The star to the immediate northeast of V831 Centauri is HR 4980, a sixth-magnitude yellow dwarf. Though fainter, this dwarf is in fact a foreground star, less than half the distance of V831 Centauri from the Sun, but much less luminous than the blue variable beyond.
