IC 1275 is a northeastern lobe of the more extensive cloud of ionised hydrogen spreading through Sagittarius eastward of the Lagoon Nebula. The smaller nebula is separated from a similar structure, IC 1274 to the northwest, by an intruding dark clump of material, Barnard 91, that obscures the light from the nebulae behind.
