NotesThis belt of dark cloud runs along southern edge of Jupiter's Equatorial Zone, with the Great Red Spot embedded in the belt's southern edge. This is not a permanent feature of Jupiter's atmosphere, and at times the belt can vanish for periods of several months before reappearing.

The southern of the two broad dark bands that encircle Jupiter. It is associated with the famous Great Red Spot.
