A prominent crater in the plains westward of the Lunae Planum region of Mars, named for the Russian astrophysicist Vasily Fesenkov. This relatively isolated formation lies in a flat highland region northeastward of the Tharsis Montes chain of volcanoes and westward of the maze of canyons known as Kasei Valles.
The crater Fesenkov itself is 87km from side to side, possessing a sharp central peak. To the northeast, its otherwise circular crater wall is marked by a small secondary crater. The main crater's floor is marked by a patch of sand towards the southern wall that stands out bright or dark depending on the conditions of the light.
