A spiral galaxy showing two very distinct spiral arms extending from its nucleus. This galaxy gives its name to the NGC 5248 Group, a small galaxy group within the Virgo Supercluster. Note that estimates of its distance from the Milky Way show considerable variation, and some sources suggest a rather greater distance than that value shown above.
