The structure of C21 has been significantly distorted by its interactions with neighbouring galaxies within the Canes Venatici I Group. This has resulted not only in its irregular appearance, but also intense starburst activity within the galaxy. Strings and nodules of busy star-forming regions are visible throughout the galaxy's form.
