NotesThis early-type galaxy belongs to a small and very distant galaxy group. In the skies of Earth, NGC 5146 and its group occupy a region just southward of the bright star Spica in Virgo. This galaxy is not to be confused with the Cocoon Nebula, IC 5146 (whereas this galaxy is NGC 5146, a point of misidentification found in various sources).
