Cerveth

The seventh month of the year

Months of the year

The month in the calendars of Middle-earth that corresponded most closely to modern July. Cerveth was the Sindarin form of the name, used exclusively by the Dúnedain (other comparable calendars used the traditional Quenya name of Cermië instead). Cerveth was preceded by the month of Nórui, and followed by Úrui.

Notes

1

The etymology of the name Cerveth is obscure, but given that this was the name of a time of year, it be might suggestive of a connection with the harvest. That in turn might imply that Cerveth (and its Quenya equivalent Cermië) had a connection to the Elvish root-word for 'cut', thought this is necessarily speculative.
